The Rest Revolution - Voices From the Front Lines
This is a special series of the podcast focused on my new book, The Rest Revolution: How to Reclaim Your Rhythm and Conquer Burnout When Overworking Has Become the Norm, which comes out on November 13th.
I’m thrilled to share this book with you because I believe it’s my most important work yet. In The Rest Revolution, I explore how we’ve been conditioned to treat ourselves like machines and how this mindset leads to burnout, exhaustion, and a disconnection from our true selves.
The Rest Revolution isn’t just about rest; it’s about the great realignment that is happening in this country. People are slowly waking up to the idea that good lives require more than work and achievement. Good lives require you getting in alignment with the purposeful work, key relationships, and energizing activities that are most important to you.
I interview high achieving professionals, psychologists, sociologists, and medical experts on how we can you can reclaim your humanity, find more balance, and choose to live and work in a way that truly aligns with your purpose. It’s about breaking free from the toxic cycle of overwork and finding a new, sustainable way forward. If you’ve ever felt like you’re running on fumes or just going through the motions, this book is for you.
If you love this podcast, I know you’ll love the book. The Rest Revolution will be available on November 12th from all major booksellers, and you can visit www.therestrevolutionbook.com to preorder your copy now. I can’t wait for you to read it.

http://www.amandamillerlittlejohn.com/hadiya Hadiya Williams, a DC-based artist and maker, answered the call of creativity and entrepreneurship.
The accomplished graphic designer and founder of Black Pepper Paperie was a member of cohort III of my signature personal branding group training program - Package Your Genius Academy.
Hadiya and I caught up to discuss how she's made art her business - she's a creative conjurer who makes visually exquisite creations - stationery, invitations, clay work, etc. She designed my AML logo (the one in the top left corner!) among a ton of other amazing things.
She recently turned her focus away from the graphic design work for which she received her BFA and advanced training to focus on clay pottery and hand made stationery.
Hadiya and I discussed her personal branding journey including:
+the importance of building your brand as an artist
+marketing's role in the creative process
+pivoting away from the career you received your degree in
+responding to family members and what others think you should be doing with your talents
+getting comfortable with self promotion, networking her way into the National Museum of Women in the Arts and more...

http://wp.me/p3AFdW-Ug Joy Hutton Lacy - aka The Restaurant Girl is the founder of Joy of Consulting. Joy was a member cohort III of my signature #personalbranding group training program - Package Your Genius Academy.
Joy and I caught up to discuss her business and brand. She's an organizational development consultant and business operations strategist who helps small businesses put better back-end systems in place.
We talked about how she created a narrowly defined niche in the consulting industry, how she overcame the discouraging feedback of a trusted mentor, how paying attention to what was working already helped her find a focus area that energizes her days, as well as the symptoms of a business that lacks systems.

The world is telling you who you are, where you get traction, where you get results and what people think you have the credibility to teach, offer or share.
But are you listening?
In this episode I take you through two different examples of women who failed to see the value the world was mirroring back to them, and how I helped them course correct. You may learn from their examples and be inspired to find your own value that is ALREADY being mirrored back to you.

Connor talks about finding his passion for music as early as 2 years of age, why he's so disciplined about producing new music, how he gets ideas for his songs and how he brings them to life.
He shares two of the four songs from his latest EP "Return of the B" and plays a new untitled original tune on piano.

Does your dream have a list of prerequisites? I.e. "I have to have x,y and z in place before I can do what I really want to do..."? How many times have you heard credible advice from coaches and experts that confirmed your thoughts that you weren't in a position to move forward on your ideas?
I suspect that we subconsciously seek out confirmation so we don't have to act. Because acting is difficult, anxiety inducing, scary.
When you sign up for a coaching session, program or pick up a book to tell you how to do a particular thing, be careful not to fall into the trap of waiting to pull the trigger on your ideas before you've checked every single item off of your coach or program's to do list.
When we do that, we could be falling into what author Tara Mohr calls "This Before That" - a hiding strategy that she details in her book Playing Big. When we fail to launch because we are waiting to go after what we want until after we take a class, or get a degree, or save $100k, or lose 30 lbs, or have 50k Instagram followers - we may be using our checklists and advice from coaches and courses to validate our fears and delay the emotionally hard work of stepping up and being seen.
Are you using preparation as a way to procrastinate on your purpose? Are you using your pre-launch checklist, your list of "should haves" as justification for why you've yet to put yourself out there?
Don't let your list of "shoulds" and list of prerequisites keep you from pursuing your goals. Sometimes hard work, passion, heart and old-fashioned hustle can beat the most well-thought out strategy any day. There's always going to be something we can improve to make our products or services better. But everything doesn't have to be perfect before we take the first step.

[Ep. 34] Why aren't you asking for help?
Friday Nov 25, 2016
Friday Nov 25, 2016
http://www.amandamillerlittlejohn.com/podcast When was the last time you felt in over your head or out of your depth about something in your life or business? What was your first response? Did you try to figure it out on your own, keep pushing blindly forward despite your limitations? Or did you find someone who could help you figure out where you were going wrong?
In this episode of Package Your Genius I explore five reasons why we don't ask for help, and how that holds us back from getting the support we need to claim our boldest dreams.
Inspired by a real life incident with my son, I relay the simple lesson I shared with him - "When you don't know what you're doing, and you don't ask for help, the only thing you can possibly make is a mess."
This holds true for life, relationships, business, cooking, ponytails - everything!
